Concrete is used for all kinds of construction work. It can be used for everything from the foundation of a building, to the walls, to the entire building. However, sometimes there are times when holes need to be drilled through the concrete, for a number of reasons, including checking out the interior of a concrete wall, or running pipes, cables, or wires through the floor or the wall. In order to do those things, the concrete contractor can't just use any drill, they are going to need to have a core drill.

Core Drill

A core drill, instead of having a solid drill bit, has a drill bit that has a hole in it. That drill bit doesn't just create a hole, instead what it does is cut out around a core of concrete, which will then allow that concrete core to be pulled right out of the drilled area. That will leave a tunnel through the concrete, in a variety of sizes, depending on what the core drill bit is sized at. That will allow the pipes, wires, or cables to be put through the tunnel with no problem. The fact that the drill bits come in a variety of sizes also makes sure that the tunnels aren't going to be too large for whatever is going into the wall or tunnel. You don't want to have a lot of extra space just floating around in the walls or floors, because that can let in cold air and such. There are several reasons to go with a concrete core drilling process instead of other ways.

Lack of Demolition

One reason to go with a concrete core drilling process is that the wall doesn't have to be demolished in any way to get the pipes and wires through it. Drilling an appropriately sized tunnel through the wall is going to leave the wall with more integrity than bashing a hole in it in order to run the utilities through it. Plus, drilling is less likely to cause collateral damage through the rest of the wall than hammering or other kinds of demolition will.

Concrete core drilling is a perfect way to do things like run utility systems and tools through walls, as well as getting into the heart of things like concrete bridges or dams in order to see what is going on with the interior of the supports to see if the concrete is still in good shape.
